Residents of Ashburton are served by three primary schools: St. Michael’s Parish School, a Catholic co-ed primary school located on High Street, Solway Primary School, and Ashburton Primary School, which are government funded primary schools located on Winton Road and Fakenham Road, respectively. For pre-schoolers, there are a number of options, including Rowen Street Kindergarten, Highgate Early Childhood Centre and Estrealla Pre School, bordering Watson Park.


Like its neighboring suburbs, Ashwood’s schools cater to its residents from all age groups. Ashwood Central Pre School is located on Yooralla Street, and Ashwood Memorial Kindergarten is on Arthur Street. For school-age students there is Ashwood High School, which is a government funded secondary college located at High Street. Adjoining the college is Parkhill Primary School, the government run primary school located on Parkhill Drive. There is also Ashwood School located at Montpellier Road which is established to cater to students with special mild learning needs, aged five to 18 years old.


Students of all ages can enjoy the education offered in the suburb of Burwood. Young children can choose to attend government funded institutions such as St. Benedict’s Primary School, or privately owned schools such as St. Scholastica’s Primary School, St. Benedict’s Parish School, Mount Scopus Memorial College (the Year 9 Campus of Emmaus College) and Presbyterian Ladies’ College. Meanwhile, young adults who wish to pursue higher education need not to look far for there is the Burwood campus of Deakin University, one of Australia’s fastest growing research universities.


There are two independent Roman Catholic schools in Chadstone: the Salesian College and St. Mary Magdalen’s Primary School. Despite being a small suburb, there are several landmarks here such as Chadstone Shopping Centre and the Chadstone campus of Holmesglen Institute of TAFE, which retained its original name despite being relocated from Malvern East.

Glen Iris

A number of private and government funded schools can be found in the suburb of Glen Iris, including Camberwell South Primary School, Glen Iris Primary School, St Cecilia’s Primary School, St Roch’s Catholic Primary School, Korowa Anglican Girls’ School, Sacré Coeur and the Malvern campus of Caulfield Grammar School.

Malvern East

There are a number of excellent schools in Malvern East and the immediate surrounds. The area is full of wonderful primary schools, offering government and private options. Parents can choose from Lloyd St School, private college Holy Eucharist School, the smaller Currajong School, Malvern Valley Primary and many more. De La Salle College is located in the adjacent suburb of Malvern, and The King Davi School for seniors is just up the road in Armadale. The sought after Gascoigne Estate is situated just near Central Park and the eastern part of Malvern East features Gardiners Creek Trail, Malvern Valley Golf Course, Chadstone Shopping Centre and a wooden adventure ‘forte’ at Phoenix Park Community Centre.  The suburbs transport options doesn’t get much better with train, tram and bus services aplenty. Accessing the Monash Freeway is easy.
